Help Local Teachers: Donate to the St. Louis Teachers’ Recycle Center

Recycling single stream trash can

Many of us now routinely separate our trash so as much as possible goes to a recycling center instead of a landfill.

A number of St. Louis municipalities even include free single stream recycle bins and pickup for residents to make it as easy as possible.

But plenty of things that end up in the trash or are tucked away in a basement box could be helping the teachers of St. Louis.

The St. Louis Teachers’ Recycle Center gathers creative materials from local business and industry that are landfill-bound and makes them available to teachers, parents and youth groups. They also accept a number of items that private individuals could collect for them.

Some of the items on their list include:

  • Buttons
  • Oatmeal containers
  • Paper towel rolls
  • Corks
  • Baby food jars
  • Clean glass jars
  • Mardi Gras beads
  • Children’s books

Materials are provided for free or low cost to teachers, used in the free Art & Play Studio sessions and in supply pods set up at some hospitals.

This organization not only keeps industrial and household waste out of landfills, it provides a valuable service to the community too. If you have access to products that the St. Louis Teachers’ Recycle Center could use, or are involved in a youth group that might want to hold a drive to collect items, give them a call and see how you can help.
